Important Tax Changes for Double Cab Pickup Owners & Drivers – Effective April 2025

In the October 2024 Budget, significant changes to the tax treatment of Double Cab pickups were announced. These changes will come into effect in April 2025.

What’s Changing?

The Bad News:

From April 2025, Double Cab pickups will be treated as passenger cars for tax purposes, which means:

• Personal User Benefit in Kind (BIK) Taxation:

The monthly BIK tax will increase significantly—up to four and a half times more than current rates.

• Capital Allowances for Businesses:

Businesses that previously could claim Double Cab pickups as Plant & Equipment to offset against annual profits will no longer be able to do so. From April, capital allowances will be aligned with passenger cars, with much lower rates (as low as 6% per year).

• Applies to both new and used Double Cab pickups.
• VED/ Road tax on LCV remains unaffected by the status change, the only increase will be aligned with RPI based increases from the tax year 2024/25 amount of £ 335 per year to £ 345 per year for tax year 2025/26

The Good News:

• VAT Reclaim:

VAT can still be reclaimed on all D-Max pickups for VAT-registered businesses.

• Single & Extended Cab Models:

D-Max Single & Extended cab models will continue to be treated as commercial vehicles and unaffected by the new tax changes.

• Transitional Period:

If you purchase or order a Double Cab pickup before 5th April 2025, you’ll continue to benefit from the current, lower tax rates until April 2029.
